“A Treat.”

The house was such a treat. Quiet, relaxing and suffused with so much light.

“Simply the Best”

The area is a delight, wild swimming up in Lake Fiastra and then down to the sea for a real - and very enjoyable - Italian experience. Ice-creams in Port San Giorgo were simply the best. Ever.

“A Real Gem”

The open plan, plenty of windows and wide terrace mean’t we occupied the whole house and so enjoyed the feeling of space. The village is a real gem. Such charming people.

The Area

Le Marche is famed for its independence. And for its food. Hill top towns pepper the rolling landscape, farming is still a family affair and in the summer everywhere seems to have a festival either happening or about to happen.

We are located at the end of a white road and surrounded by fields. The village is five minutes drive away. We have a butcher, small family run grocery store/supermarket and a rather good baker (rare in Italy). There are also various vineyards where you can buy wine.  If you want bigger shopping there are plenty of larger supermarkets within 20 minutes drive and there are also designer outlet stores on the way down to the coast.

There are plenty of restaurants ranging from pizzerias (take-out available) to inexpensive, family-run trattorias and then a few more upmarket venues including one where they cook the meat over an open fire.

Le Marche has lots of great wines (the whites particularly) and our local winery will dispense into our 5 litre jugs at quite a discount off the bottle price white, rose and red. Le Marche remains very seasonal and the vegetables are always excellent.

We are an hour from Ancona airport (Ryan Air) and 3 hours from Rome or Bologna. Being a modern house it is suffused with lots of light.

Some specific things we like to do

  • Spend the day in Porto San Giorgio on the beach and either take a picnic or visit one of the local restaurants. Afterwards ice-creams are a must. And the shopping is pretty tempting too. There is an excellent wine shop. And lots and lots of restaurants.

  • Go to Lake Fiastra, take a picnic and sunbathe. There is a stunning walk to do through a forest and some amazing rock formations.

  • Go to Portonuovo, have lunch on the rocky beach and then stay for dinner which is magical

  • Go designer shopping. Footwear is made in Le Marche for all of the major designer brands

  • Go to the outdoor opera in Macerata which takes place at Sferisterio

  • Visit the massive market in Civitanova on Saturday and bring lunch back to have by the pool

  • Visit the wonderful Villa Buonaccorsi gardens
